Fellows New Teacher Conference Award

The Fellows Endowment Fund, created in 1984, enabled the STANYS Fellowship Committee to establish a conference award for new teachers starting in 1992. The award supports the attendance of a second or third year teacher at the annual STANYS Conference. Room, board (standard double rate), and registration (but not transportation) are covered by this reward.

We are pleased that the fund has been benefiting promising new educators for a number of years. We hope their association with STANYS will continue to be part of a lifelong commitment to professional development.

Fellows New Teacher Conference Award Recipient 2010

This year's recipient is Kaitlin Fielder. Kaitlin teaches at Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School in the Northeastern Section, and is one of two science teachers in her K-12 building. She currently teaches Physical Science, Earth Science, and Physics, and next year will be taking on Forensics as well. Her principal describes Kaitlin as a "go-getter teacher" who loves learning, exploring, and taking her students on journeys that allow them to work collaboratively. Kaitlin looks forward to attending this year's conference so that she can bring back new techniques, lessons, and ideas to her students. But she especially looks forward to having the opportunity to network with other Earth Science and Physics teachers. The committee is pleased to offer Kaitlin these opportunities with this award.
